March the 8th is International Women's Day. But how much have women in Europe got to celebrate? Women earn an average of 15% less than men- a figure which rises to 25% in the private sector. Reducing the gender pay gap is an important topic on the European political agenda. A new video report from the European Commission Directorate General Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities explains how a number of EU countries are taking actions to try to end discrimination against women in the workplace. Wage gap? Women make less money because they work work shorter hours, take less dangerous jobs, seek physically more comfortable jobs, demand more flexibility of hours, and interrupt their careers more often. (They also pursue less demand degrees in the university.) Unequal pay for unequal work: You can call it wage gap, but over here we just call it common sense. Goodbye Europe! It's been a fun 2,000 years. Hate to see you go.

The film is about EU - its hardly a market, let alone a free market.

I heard no women whining about pay discrimination in Belgium, this is utter nonsense and propaganda by leftist parties and media

Don't try logic with women, they simply don't get it!!!!!Men do not have the option to take off of work for reasons such as,child birth and period cramps. If you put in less time you get paid less!!!.Also , I wonder how many of those women could opt out of stacking the 100 lb. bags in the stock room where their male counterpart could not?

As a businessman, if I could hire a woman to do the same job for less money, why would I hire a man? That would make absolutely no sense. And if I were some chauvanist pig who hired men and paid them more just because they were men, my competition would take advantage of my chauvanistic weakness to hire the women and use the cost savings to drive me out of the market. My sexism would end up putting me out of business since my competition could use the labor cost savings to undercut my prices.

I agree that people doing the same job equally well in the same company should get equal salary. But people who do different jobs wanting the same salary because their work is supposedly "equivalent" that's plain bullshit. We are supposed to have a free market, and that includes the job market. If you don't have the qualifications for a better payed job or can't sell yourself to your potential employers, then that's your problem.

Interesting, but why the War on the pay gap? Declaring war on not military things is often associated with America.
