Watch Shake Hands with the Devil, its a canadian made movie...very excellent. It shows also that "high influence" rwandans were taken out of the country. Also all of the whites "les blancs" True that a third party cannot possible stop all the killing, but they did not allow for refuge for the Tutsies...they could have had areas protected by the UN (such as the Hotel)

actually the UN did when belgium/french troops left rwanda. Canadian troops commanded by lieutenant general Romeo Delaire and other light armed troops from 3rd world contries were there but they were very lightly armed and didnt engage in much combat because it was only a peacekeeping mission by the UN.

It happened in the 60s and 70s too, and now it's starting again in the Congo. The UN can do nothing but stop it temporarily - how can a third-party stop two groups of people from killing each other without adding to the killings? They need to work it out themselves or it'll go on for hundreds of more years.

I think that ok you have a point . However Iam from the west ( UK) and I think that we could have tried a bit harder . It wasn't just men the Hutu's were going after it was women and children as well . Surely that is totally unacceptable and should have been nipped in the bud ages before it became what it did . ok, West didn't stop this horror, but why always waiting something from the West ! Africa did all it could to be free from us and when they need us, they want us to help ?? Africa could also have provided help since Africa and rich arabic countries were able to help those poor innoncent people who were killed horribly. BE FAIR ! Hugo

How do you not know what genocide is? Ever hear of the Holocaust?
Haimfan (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
I cannot believe this was allowed to happen ! It amazes me that people meaning the west stood by and let this atrocity happen
